Dog Brushes Own Teeth

Abby is the spokesdog for this blog and just about anything else she wants to talk about because she can bark louder than I can. Well, she has mastered a new skill.  She can brush her own teeth!  Please refer to the photo for details of this feat.
Being the independent sort, Abs prefers being self-taught vs learning to do the usual doggie tricks.  Oh, she can fetch her blue baby, which is code for her bringing any and every stuffed toy she owns to  me when she wants to play.  She will also come when I call treat
However, this dental hygiene thing was a surprise to me.  Having recently been to the vet for a cleaning, I suppose she wanted her teefus to stay bright and shiny.  To that end, she discovered one of my old toothbrushes I use for cleaning those tiny spots around the house.  And she was off in her efforts to maintain that lovely grin she flashes at strangers to lure them in and then nip at their jeans and shoe laces.  Did I mention that Abby is a rescue doggie?  We don't know her history, but do know she is always up for the challenge we call Bite a Hole Through The Pants game, which, again, she invented.
She let me shoot this picture to demonstrate her tooth-technique so you can share it with your small dog. I should have taken a photo of her with three toothbrushes in front of her.  I was surprised to learn she is also a part time thief, in this case, somehow retrieving our fresh toothbrushes and claiming them for her own.
So next time you come to visit us at Stately Martha (Bear) Manor, fear not.  Should you and your jeans and shoelaces make it past Abby and you find she's confiscated your personal toothbrush, I have begun buying the bristly things by the pound and have extras to spare.

WARNING: ONLY ALLOW YOUR SMALL DOG TO CHEW ON THE TOOTHBRUSH BECAUSE A BIG DOG MIGHT SNAP IT IN TWO AND CHOKE!!!

Perfect Romance-Hollywood Hearts

If you've never seen Barbra Streisand in the 1970 On A Clear Day You Can See Forever movie, you are missing one of the most ultra-romantic songs ever sung or filmed. Play the video in this post and you won't be disappointed. While the movie is often silly, as it is meant to be, about a character with ESP (extra sensory perception) who has past lives, the tasteful love scenes are spectacular.  This particular song,  Love With All The Trimmings, has lyrics that would inspire Cupid, himself! Add the lush surroundings and her over-the-top costuming, plus the memorable melody and that equals perfect romance, in my book (The Goodbye Lie -hahaha).

Read the lyrics to Love with All the Trimmings:

My dearest love who existed in a dream
Till this evening when a wave came and swept me out to sea.
None of the loves that you have known
Could prepare you for the love raging everywhere in me.
For all the arms that have covered you
The hands that have touched you
And the lips you have lingered on before,
Added together would be less than an olive
In the banquet of love I have in store.
Love seasoned to entice,
Love with all the trimmings filled with spice,
Love flavored to your whim,
Served piping hot with all the trimmings.
Ooo... For I'll decode every breath and every sigh,
Till your every lover's wish
Is fulfilled before it's made.
Toss in some jealousy and doubt
Should it be required,
Not to rest till there's nothing more desired,
Thus loving as I do,
Never, never will you ever be untrue.
Having love with all the trimmings
Waiting home for you ...

There is another wonderfully rich romantic song I will post, but at a later time.  I don't want to overwhelm your heart ...

First on Broadway, then adapted for screen, On a Clear Day was directed by Vincent Minnelli with Barbra Streisand, Eves Montand and, yes, Jack Nicholson.

Thank you to YouTube.

Larry's Tuna Patties Recipe- A Tribute

Larry Dingman, a dear friend of many years, recently went home to Heaven. I  think of Larry and remember all we shared.
Being a professional horticulturist, each time I would see him, I'd ask a question about a plant in my house or one in the yard.  From fertilizer to taking cuttings, he guided my efforts and the result was a landscape of which I was very proud.
I always laugh to myself about the time I asked him, by email, when I should trim back my roses and some other basic questions.  I printed his response and have it on my refrigerator to this day. He wrote, "Jane, it seems you've forgotten everything I ever taught you."  Well, not quite, sweet Larry, for my flowers do thrive when I slow down enough in a day to treat them as you instructed.
Not only could Larry grow a mean daisy, but he was a great cook.  I have several of his recipes in my recipe box including the one for Larry's Tuna Patties that I made the other day for the family.  Give them a try.  If you like tuna, I think you'll like them.  Thank you, Larry.

Larry's Tuna Patties
( I made this title blue to represent the blue of Larry's eyes. 😍 )

You'll need:
1 6 oz can of Tuna, drained
1 Egg
1/3 cup Seasoned Bread Crumbs
3 tablespoons  Milk
1 tablespoon Vegetable Oil
1 tablespoon chopped Onion (or onion powder)
2 tablespoons Mayonnaise
2 tablespoons chopped Parsley (optional)

Mix all ingredients and drop by tablespoon in skillet lightly coated with non-stick cooking spray. Over low to medium heat, brown on both sides, 3 or 4 minutes each side, till golden brown. Makes 6 patties.

Semi-Ingenious Repair

I am sure there are those who would be thrown to discover they had a hole in the only pants they had with them. Not me. Other than having to go to the trouble of shopping for new britches, such a hardship, not, I was content to finish-out the day dressed in the same clothes in which I had begun that day. You see, I like to think I would have made a good frontier woman, sharp shooting, plowing, dipping candles, kneading bread and all, so a little rip in my drawers is nothing to a gal who would be able to milk cows, churn butter and slop the hogs all at the same time.
However, because a mini-speck of my skin  was visible via the hole, the difference between my flesh tone and the white of the pants caused most eyes within twenty feet to take notice and the owners of those eyes to comment, "Do you know you have a hole in your pants?"
My remedy to relieve their worry?  I raided the first aid kit of one Band-Aid, opened it and placed the sterile white pad to the inside of my pants, pressing the sticky tabs firmly to the fabric, covering and masking the hole.
Lest I carry one extra of everything I am wearing each day, I shall depend upon the resources learned whilst I was a Girl Scout, a bit of ingenuity, and a whole bunch of dumb luck to get me through. Prayers for the big stuff, although my dearest friend, Bonnie, once told me, "There is no prayer too small."  I like to remember that.

From the Author of The Goodbye Lie Series

I now understand the definition of a labor of love.

Discover-ing the personal-ities of the Irish Dunnigan family, the players in my Goodbye Lie series set on historic Amelia Island, Florida, has been all-enveloping.  As I walk the beach, with the Atlantic Ocean's cool waters washing over my feet, Breelan and Carolina and Pat and Marie, the siblings featured in the novels, whisper their secrets in the passing sea breeze. I can't help but listen as they tell their stories.  Sometimes they call me out for sharing too many of their personal details, but then understand the necessity of it.  Without those details, they would hold far less interest for me or my readers.  Their actions and reactions, their deeds and misdeeds are the result of deep and sometimes dark developments in their lives. I am fascinated, intrigued and just plain curious as to where their whispers will lead me, and in turn, the reader. Please join our band of beloved friends, the Dunnigans of Amelia Island.
